There is a lot of noise in the world today. Some days it can feel like we are being swallowed by a churning mass of opposition that will not think twice about knocking us down. For quite a few months, I felt a longing deep within me. I had difficulty naming it and was unable to describe it. At times, I felt loss and grief. There was even a pang that weighed heavily on my heart and mind. Sometimes it was a wave that washed over me, casting a shadow where I felt the confusing feeling of being lost and alone. Then there was the anger and frustration. What was going on within me that led to such an unexpected eruption? I questioned everything. There was an indescribable emptiness that I felt and it truly confused me. I wasn’t sure why, but it was there inside me and it was very real. It would emerge while I was going about my business with my daily mundane tasks. I felt a sadness or a longing that I couldn’t quite name. It would appear quickly and out of the blue but would linger like a ghost in me.

She stood before immense the creature. Her heart was racing, hands trembling. There was pain in her throat. The result of dryness from the rapid, shallow breaths she fruitlessly tried to control. It was also from the fear that choked her. Unable to move as she stood within the stone chamber, she was locked eye to eye with the beast. He towered over her. Eyes seething with hostility and disgust. One thundering step by one thundering step, he slowly made his way closer to her. As he loomed over her snarling, his giant hands clenched into fists, his acrid breath took away what little breath she had.
