Into the Liminal ~ Part Four Surrender in the Sacred Swamp
Traveling deeper into the liminal spaces, we begin to slow ourselves down. Walking slowly, each step must be more purposeful than the last. We know there is a purpose to life and what we discover within it. We strive to understand our own pathway forward. Our society demands production at a rapid pace and proof that we have created. Proof that we exist to make an extraordinary mark upon our society in a clumsy dash for our fifteen minutes of fame. Yet in our race to compete for the top, what is the quality of our creation? What is the quality of our lives? Are we to create shoddy representations of ourselves where a shallow image reflects the disinterested attention of the masses or are we daring enough to go deeper? Are you willing to pull the filters off and stare into the unknown depths of your own soul? Are you prepared to shatter the image of what you think you need to be and trade it in for who you can be? Time, patience, and reflection are needed for the process to explore our depths as we wade through the still waters of swamps and bogs

Staring out at the endless sea, there is a deep primal presence that churns within. It rises. It falls. It beckons. It lures. It dreams. It envelopes. It coaxes. It devours. It renews. As we peer out to that something beyond the horizon and below the surface, we feel it, but what is it? Do we understand the enormity of it all? As mere mortals, do we even have the capacity to even scrape the surface of it? Try as we might, just as our ancestors did, we stare out to the endless sea and feel… something. That deep churning, the longing, that hunger and need for connection and meaning. As we search for understanding, we seek to know what our purpose is. We can feel the ancient and primal forces that are all around us and we try to understand them. As we do this, something shifts below the water’s surface before us. From the deepest depths, she emerges. The Cailleach rises once again.

. I could feel the energies and blessings of the Great Celestial beings. Crickets sang in their late summer symphony. Coyotes howled in the distance. My head felt light once more as the energy surged. I knew that I was not alone in that moment. I heard the echoes of those who came before me as they wished upon the same stars. They used them to guide their way in the night as they traveled under the same moonlight. They have whispered prayers and chanted incantations for thousands of years to the beautiful Lady of Reflective Light and the twinkling diamonds that adorned her midnight mantle. I felt the ancestors, known and unknown around me, urging me to explore the sacred Mysteries.

We are all searching for something. Every single one of us. Whether it is for connection and understanding, safety and comfort, or honest and true communion, we are all looking to find that place in our world where we feel safe enough to let our defenses down and finally exhale. We long for a haven where we can go when the weight of the world may be too much for us to handle. We may crave a place of comfort and love where we know we will not be judged for what we are feeling or the mistakes we’ve made. There is need within us to seek out a group or community that will welcome us for simply who we are. When we find a person, trusted council or community that will accept us for who we are, we feel welcomed and accepted. It is only natural to want to seek out others who can share in the joys and pleasures we have in life as well as help us understand what is going on when we are down. We are human. We are social beings. However, there is more to our healing journey than working on our outer connections. If we are to truly heal and get to the root of our patterns, we need to also take time by ourselves to reflect.

We all have parts of ourselves that we feel no one may understand. An experience, private reflection, a long lingering thought that is wrapped up in our minds and hearts yet will never see the light of day. They are pieces we keep hidden; shuttered and cast aside into our depths where they are left behind so we can “move on”. We do this so we can feel safe and protected from the trauma in which they were born from.

In the silence of the early morning, I savor the fleeting moments. The Otherworldly light begins to awaken and rise. It stretches over the landscape, slowly crawling from east to west, bringing forth the new day. I willingly breathe into this being of light and find my senses slipping from dream to thought once more.

Standing on an edge, we can feel our hearts race. Our mind calculates several pros and cons of what to do next. Maybe our breath quickens and palms sweat as we contemplate what it takes to move ahead upon our path. We work hard to plant our intentions and cultivate our dreams. It is not easy to create the change we wish to experience.

Standing on the rocky ledge, I found myself holding my breath. It took some time before I even realized where I was. Step by step, I carefully made my journey to the edge of the rugged coastline that touched the churning sea. It was as if I was standing on stone fingers that were pleading out from the base of the cliff and out into the cold, grey Atlantic Ocean.
